In 2005 God birthed Pine Grove’s corporate vision: build a hotel & conference center in the Grand Traverse Region.  Over the last several years God has modeled this vision to work with medical community in Traverse City.  The hotel will work with the special care and needs of people that are using the medical facilities at Munson Hospital and Cowell Cancer Center as well as many other physicans in the area.  We are excited to have a signed purchase agreement on a property located in Elmwood Township less than 5 miles to Munson Hospital and Cowell Cancer Center.

This is not just a hotel but a training center for those in our area who need job skills to be able to obtain employment. Those employed will work for a specific length of time (to be determined by labor laws but we are hoping 4-6 months) gaining experience in an area of the hotel of interest to them (front desk, housekeeping, maintenance, etc…). We believe that this is one way to impact our community by establishing marketplace ministry which changes lives!

The training segment of our vision is Foundations Workforce Solutions (FWS). FWS is a nonprofit job training program where we are “Changing Lives by Modeling Hope!” For more information contact CEO Julia Hoard at 231 590-2546

News Release 12-10-2018

We are excited to announce that on September 13th, 2018 it entered into an agreement to acquire property in Elmwood Township at 12868 S. West Bayshore Drive. This property will be the location of a specialty hotel at the base of Leelanau County.

This acquisition brings together FWS vision for a vocational training program for the hospitality and healthcare industries while providing opportunities for job creation, skills training and job placement for under-employed, unemployed and under-educated persons in Northern Lower Michigan. These individuals may be of low income and socially or economically disadvantaged.  FWS seeks to provide technical assistance and educational programs to generate new and expanded occasions to raise standards of living, improve life skills and stimulate economic development that benefits disadvantaged persons of deficient social, academic and financial backgrounds. FWS intends to provide these opportunities through the development of a fully functioning hotel near downtown Traverse City and the regional healthcare center.

“We’re thrilled to have an opportunity to address what we see are rising needs in our community. Those needs being a lack of lodging for patients and their families coming to the area for treatment and vocational training in hospitality in a region with a high focus on tourism. We look forward to working closely with neighborhood residents and the Elmwood Planning Commission to make sure this is a good fit for the community and our organization,” said Jules Hoard, chief executive officer of FWS, a 501c3 non-profit organization.

Hoard went on to state, “Our vision is to create a teaching hotel, approximately 100-110 rooms, run by a highly experienced operating company. Our focus will include travelers requiring overnight and extended stays to the region including those visiting wineries, wedding venues, and those seeking outpatient treatment or extended stays for families with loved ones with health care needs. Currently, there are many times throughout the year when there is limited hotel space for our region’s medical guests. We would like to help address those needs, have rooms available specifically for medical guests and their families. While providing for our guests’ needs, we will establish specific apprenticeship opportunities for entry level healthcare careers and nationally recognized hospitality certifications”.

This concept was initially birthed by a local congregation, Pine Grove Church of God (PGCOG), in East Bay Township. Yet, PGCOG wished this to be a community-focused project and therefore, formed a non-profit training company, FWS, fully separated from the church entity.

Foundations Workforce Solution (FWS) is a public charity corporation located in Traverse City, MI. FWS received their 501c3 status as an educational organization in 2014 and has its own board of directors and bylaws.
